Why We Choose Your Puppy

Colorado Country Goldens cute puppy face puppies

Whether sold as a “pet” or as a “show Prospect” your puppy has been bred from quality Goldens and is the product of a great deal of care, research, hard work and love. Your puppy is suited to be a wonderful companion, performance, hunting, or therapy work. They have received lots of love, care and socialization from us. We are very proud of the puppies that we produce. Our hope is that you enjoy your puppy as much as we enjoyed raising and nurturing the puppy you are taking home. As experienced breeders instead of you choosing a puppy, we will choose the puppy that you will be taking home. This is because we care a great deal that you get the puppy that will make you happy and fit your needs. If more than one puppy is a good fit, we will take your preferences into consideration. Our years of experience and the time that we have spent with these puppies daily gives us a much better chance of matching our puppies to the proper homes. Tell us as much about your lifestyle and what you are looking for in a Golden retriever and let us pick the perfect puppy for you. If for some reason you don’t like the puppy we’ve chosen for you, you are under no obligation whatsoever to take him/her home, and we prefer that you didn’t, and there will be no hard feelings.

Once puppies are matched with their new families, they can go home between 8-9 weeks after evaluation for show potential and temperament. They will have been dewormed, given their first vaccines, been microchipped and AKC registered (limited registration). Each puppy will leave with a toy and blanket that has their littermates' and mothers’ scent on it to help ease their transition into their new home. They will also have a folder with information

like their health record from a licensed veterinarian, microchip papers, AKC paperwork, a small bag of Purina Pro Plan Performance chicken and rice 20/30, and helpful puppy raising information.

Our puppies are handled daily, and will have met different people, other dogs, and various farm animals. They will have been exposed to a variety of surfaces, textures and many indoor/ outdoor environments. They will have experienced grooming and bathing as well by the time they go to their new homes. We strive to raise smart, confident, well-socialized puppies who will adjust easily into their new homes.

Limited Registration

All our pet puppies are sold on limited registration which means that they are not being sold for breeding purposes. The only difference between Limited registration and Full registration is that Limited registration prevents dogs from being shown in conformation and any offspring they produce may not be registered with the American Kennel Club. The Limited Registration is only reversible to “full registration” by one of the breeders of your puppy. If you think that you have a beautiful dog and want to attempt to show your puppy, then we will be happy to discuss this with you. The Limited Registration is a tool offered by the American Kennel Club for responsible breeders to protect their breeding programs and their puppies.

Microchipping

Our puppies go home microchipped and enrolled with the AKC Reunite Program. When a dog’s microchip is enrolled with AKC Reunite, their ID is linked to the owner’s name(s), phone numbers, emergency contacts and other vital information in the database. When the dog is found, AKC Reunite will then immediately send the owners text messages, emails and begin contacting all the phone numbers on the pet’s record to reunite them with their family as quickly as possible. We also list ourselves on the microchip so that we would be contacted if you were not reached.

Puppy Vaccinations and Health Check

Every one of our puppies is examined by an experienced small animal veterinarian before it goes to its new home. This exam includes a full physical and cardiac check, and you will receive the report to take home and share with your veterinarian. It’s our goal to send home a happy, healthy, well-socialized puppy. Depending on the age of your puppy, it will have at least its first puppy vaccination around 7 weeks of age. We will provide you with a detailed vaccination and worming record to share with your veterinarian. We suggest that you reach out to your veterinarian before you bring your puppy home to schedule a wellness check as well as their next set of vaccinations for when your puppy is 11 weeks old.

4

Deworming Protocol

Each puppy is sent home with a record that shows what dewormers the puppy has received so the owners and their vet can determine the best deworming schedule for the puppy moving forward. After taking your puppy home, we recommend you take a stool sample to your veterinarian on your first visit to be analyzed.

5

Potty Training

While our puppies do not come 100% potty trained, we do begin the process for our new owners. Starting at 5 weeks old, our puppies are raised in an indoor area that has access to a doggy door. By about 7 weeks old almost all puppies make the choice to go to the bathroom outside vs their indoor area. This makes the potty-training process extremely easy for the new owners. We’ve had several buyers over the years tell us that their new puppy potty trained in less than a week in their new homes!

Feeding

Your puppy is currently being fed Purina Pro Plan Performance 30/20 Chicken and Rice. We are extremely happy with how our puppies and dogs are developing on the Pro Plan Products. We recommend that you continue to feed Purina Pro Plan recipes for the life of your puppy. As your dog matures and the energy level decreases you may have to switch to a formula that is lower in protein and fat to maintain a healthy weight. It is very important that you keep your puppy at a healthy weight for his or her life. This will help to protect joints like their elbows and hips as well as help to keep their hearts healthy.
